Did you know that if you put together all of the plastic that people use everyday that is out in the ocean, it would become the size of the United States and India? It’s sad to think that the plastic that is in the ocean is killing all of the marine life out there, which includes penguins and turtles. They mistaken these plastics for food, such as fishes or jellyfish. Some of the plastic have even gotten tangled around a penguin’s leg and caused their leg to be amputated (cut off). We don’t usually think about the waste that is going out in the ocean, but we should. Marine life is important to our ecosystem. The animals out in the ocean aren’t the only ones being affected. The ocean itself is being affected when it is polluted with so much trash. The ocean provides oxygen, carbon dioxide, food for both humans and the animals out in the ocean. Let’s all do our part and help the environment! We can do things such as recycling or by simply not using plastic bags when we go grocery shopping. The Taronga Wildlife Hospital in Australia is urging everyone to help out with the environment by simply picking up at least 3 pieces of litter every time you visit the beach.
